We made a ‘54 Satchel in 2018 but have listed it only once in the last 4 years. The truth is, I always thought I could do better at some point in time. In December of 2025 I set out to make a stunning ‘54 Satchel Paige. I knew the yellow background was a no-go, but really lacked the direction of color and pose. I used the last known image of Paige as an active player in MLB.

This is a stunning Paige. We couldn’t have made it without our sketch artist, Moira, and thanks to her for doing 5 sketches while I told her what I needed. This card was a vision and I wanted it just right. In the end, I couldn’t decide between robins-egg or olive green for the background—so I made both. We made 5 of them blue and 2 olive for a total of 7. Who knows if we’ll list them all over the years.

This particular card is the best copy of the blue and was encased as our one-and-only MINT copy.

A fabulous virtual relic printed on stock from 1954 and beautifully glossed. One of the few cards I make that may appreciate significantly in value as Paige becomes a folk hero or a guy people under 60 never heard of. While no true art collector collects with market value in mind, this one’s pretty special.
