We made 4 different Mantle cards at #30. Two were happy…one was too much like the original and this one. The photo used was taken in September of 1953 by Sport Magazine at the end of the season as they readied to report on the World Series. Three years later it was a “color” photo in their magazine. We went to sketch, paint and a beautiful 1953 Yankee Stadium backdrop and the result is phenomenal. For one day we had a different Mantle at #30 but, after seeing this sketch—it was a “no-brainer.” This copy is the best we printed. Just an amazing card from a phenomenal set. A copy of the original 5×7 sketch is included here and it’s the one and only “pack-fresh” copy we’ll make. Look for the “shoebox” copy at some point in 2026!
