Back in the early 90’s, I was collecting Red Man tobacco cards like a madman. I had every card without tabs back in the 80’s and decided it was time to get my favorites in really nice shape. Red Man and 1952 Topps baseball cards were my favorites. Sadly, while Red Man had solid players, they were unable to produce cards of players I really liked. It was the only downside of this magnificent set. I set out to make cards of those players. Back then, I made them look exactly like the Red Man issues. They were crude but served their purpose for me. When I started making cards for Banty Red, the first ones I made were, naturally, Red Man style. This time I had to capture the vibe but make them original. Whenever possible, I put the text box behind the player to not obscure the photo and artwork—unlike the original Red Man issue. Admittedly, these have evolved—most notably in the last year. I liked the results so much, I “retired” almost 80% of the Banty Red Man cards and begin anew. Here are the current Banty Red Man pouch inserts. It remains our most popular and widely collected set. These are in no particular order aside from alphabetical first name, but fun to browse. A beautiful 32 card base set. There will definitely be additions down the road. There is a group of “Black Sox” and a Rube Waddell, among others, due out at some point in 2025. The cards measure larger than our Indian Heads as I always wanted a slightly more “substantial” card that would still fit in a cigarette pack.
